Gasperini's pairing strategy: the coach's plan for Como and Real Madrid

Roma return to action after a three-week international break tomorrow at Como in a Serie A fixture scheduled for 12:30 kickoff. The Giallorossi are seeking their first victory at Como since 1989, but will be without goalkeeper Mile Svilar, who is sidelined by injury. Midfielders Bryan Cristante and defender Konstantinos Koulierakis are also unavailable. The match is the sixth round of Serie A and will be broadcast exclusively on DAZN. Viewing options include the DAZN app on smart TV, gaming consoles (Xbox or PlayStation), and streaming devices such as Amazon Fire TV Stick, Google Chromecast, and TIM VISION Box. An active DAZN subscription is required to watch.

Pierluigi Gollini will be Roma's goalkeeper for the coming weeks after Mile Svilar suffered a fractured toe and is ruled out for at least a month. Gollini faces an immediate test: a trip to Como tomorrow followed by a Champions League match against Real Madrid. The 29-year-old keeper will attempt to rediscover his form after several seasons as a reserve, with fans hoping he retains the quality he showed in 2019 when he played for Atalanta under Gasperini and earned his first Italy cap. Gollini joined Roma on 24 January 2025 on a permanent transfer from Atalanta after years moving between clubs. His history with Gasperini runs deep: he arrived at Atalanta in January 2017, initially competing for the number-one spot before establishing himself as the club's primary goalkeeper between 2018 and 2021. That period saw him flourish in both Serie A and European competition, though disagreements with Gasperini prompted a move to Tottenham in summer 2021. His spell in the Premier League was unsuccessful — he made no league appearances — and he returned to Italy. After a brief loan at Fiorentina in 2022, Gollini joined Napoli on loan in January 2023, where he won the Serie A title under Luciano Spalletti, his first national championship. He remained at Napoli the following season before returning to Atalanta. Last summer, Genoa took him on loan with a purchase option until 30 June 2025, but his time there was interrupted by surgery in autumn. The loan with Genoa was terminated early on 24 January 2025, the same day Gollini completed his permanent move to Roma.

Roma have released their squad list for Saturday's Serie A match against Como, kick-off 12:30, in the sixth round of fixtures. Mile Svilar and Bryan Cristante are both unavailable and will miss the trip. Wesley and Donyell Malen have been cleared to play after returning to fitness under Gian Piero Gasperini. Vasquez has been reintegrated into the squad after being left out until now, and will serve as deputy to Pierluigi Gollini during Svilar's absence. The full squad includes goalkeepers Vasquez, De Marzi and Gollini; defenders Rensch, N'Dicka, Molina, Hermoso, Mancini, Balerdi, Wesley, Lulli and Ghilardi; midfielders Pellegrini, De Roon, Koné, Pisilli and Mora; and forwards Castro, Malen, Soulé and Dybala.
