Napoli vs Roma: Team news, predicted result and how to watch on TV

Source: GialloRossi.net

Roma travel to the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona to face Napoli, coached by Massimiliano Allegri, on Saturday 24 October at 18:00 in the big match of Serie A's eighth matchday. Roma return to league action after a comfortable win in the Champions League, a 4-0 victory over Slovan Bratislava, and arrive on the back of a 2-0 win over Genoa in their last league outing.

Gian Piero Gasperini's side are unbeaten in Serie A this season, with 17 points from seven matchdays, third place in the table and just three goals conceded. Napoli are in a very different position, stuck on 10 points after a surprising 1-0 defeat at Venezia. They have, however, regained some confidence in Europe with a hard-fought 4-3 win over Bodø/Glimt.

On the Napoli side, Allegri is expected to line up in a 4-3-3, with Milinkovic-Savic favoured over Meret in goal. Buongiorno is out, while Rrahmani is a doubt after a fever, with Badiashile and Rafa Marin ready to step in. In midfield De Bruyne, Anguissa and McTominay start, with Lobotka the alternative. Højlund returns to lead the attack, flanked by Politano and either Lang or Giovane. David Neres, Alisson Santos and Favasuli are absent.

For Roma, Gasperini has Cristante back, although it is still unclear whether he will start from the outset. Svilar, Koné, Dybala and Pellegrini remain out, so Gollini is confirmed in goal. Mancini, N'Dicka and Hermoso are favoured at the back, with Lulli and Wesley on the flanks. De Roon and Pisilli are ahead in the race for central midfield places, while Malen returns up front, supported by Soulé and Cristante, with Mora the only alternative to the former Atalanta man.

The match will be broadcast exclusively on DAZN, with a major change: the Maradona clash will also be available free of charge to non-subscribers. Viewers only need to register on the DAZN platform without taking out a subscription to access the live stream. Coverage starts at 17:00, with kick-off at 18:00 on Saturday 24 October. Pierluigi Pardo will commentate, alongside technical analyst Fabio Bazzani.

Updated odds make Roma slight favourites. A Napoli win is priced on average between 2.75 and 2.90, a draw around 3.30-3.50, and a Roma win between 2.35 and 2.45. The gap is minimal, suggesting bookmakers expect a very balanced contest. Over and Under 2.5 goals markets are practically level. Roma have an impressive defensive record, conceding just three goals in seven matchdays and keeping clean sheets in their three league away games at Lecce, Torino and Como. Napoli, however, have scored in every Serie A game played at the Maradona. The most popular predicted correct score is 1-1.

Mancini says a point is fine after Napoli draw, and praises the new arrivals

Gianluca Mancini said a point was a fair result after Roma's Serie A matchday 8 clash at Napoli, played at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. Roma conceded three goals, the same number they had let in across the rest of the league campaign, and Mancini admitted that was a problem for the defenders. Asked about it, he said: "Quello si, purtroppo ci sono partite in cui li prendi. Dobbiamo rivedere il primo tempo dove abbiamo subito molte occasioni." He pointed to the first half, where Roma faced a lot of chances, and to the first goal, scored by Anguissa, where he felt the team could have managed the ball better. Mancini described a Roma side that refuses to give up. He said the team had never shown that habit before, apart from one game last year in Milan, and that the squad keeps creating chances in every match. He said Napoli are one of the strong sides they had to face, and that the players who came on did not lower the tempo, with the team staying reactive at its highest level. On the question of whether the new arrivals had raised the standard, he agreed that this was what the squad had been missing, adding that the newcomers were strong and young. Siamo contenti." On the newcomers, he added: "Assolutamente sì, era quello che ci mancava. Sono arrivati tutti ragazzi forti, giovani. Leo è stato capitano in una squadra importante come il Marsiglia. Diamo tutto per questa maglia per portare a casa sempre il risultato." On the concessions, he said: "Anche sul gol di Anguissa potevamo gestire meglio la palla, sul secondo sapevamo la forza di McTominay in area e il terzo dalla distanza. Fa parte di queste partite, l'importante è reagire e non abbattersi. Per come si era messa un punto va bene."

Balerdi scores brace as Roma draw 3-3 at Napoli, matching Di Bartolomei's 1983 feat

Leonardo Balerdi scored twice as Roma came away with a 3-3 draw at the Diego Armando Maradona against Napoli. The Argentine defender's brace earns him a special place in the club's history. He became the second player in Roma's history to score a double in Serie A against Napoli, following Agostino Di Bartolomei, who also scored twice on 20 February 1983. The result leaves Roma with a point from a high-scoring encounter in Naples. Balerdi's double places him alongside one of the club's most celebrated midfielders, Di Bartolomei, in the club's record books against their southern rivals. The article's remaining detail centres on the match itself and the comparison with Di Bartolomei's achievement, which came in a league fixture against Napoli more than four decades ago.

Napoli 3-3 Roma: McTominay Brace and Balerdi Double Save Roma a Point

Napoli and Roma drew 3-3 at the Maradona in a wild game that Roma will see as a useful point, given how the match had gone, while Napoli feel they have been robbed. Anguissa put the hosts ahead in the first half with a spectacular acrobatic finish that left Gollini helpless. McTominay doubled the lead with a header early in the second half and Napoli pressed Roma hard. Roma responded after their substitutions. Malen and Soulé combined for the equaliser, and Soulé's curling shot made it 2-1. Five minutes later, substitute Balerdi headed Roma level. Napoli kept pushing and regained the lead in the 83rd minute, when McTominay struck a sharp shot for another brace. That was his second double after the one he scored in the Champions League against Bodo Glimt. Gasperini's side refused to give up, and in the dying seconds Balerdi rose highest to head in again. Napoli then complained about a foul, and Allegri was sent off for protesting. The result means Lazio and Inter can extend their lead at the top of the table. For Roma, the draw ends a match that looked lost at 3-2. Balerdi was the decisive figure, scoring both of Roma's late equalisers, and the team's response after the changes was the difference between defeat and a point. Soulé was also praised for another strong performance. In the match ratings, Balerdi and McTominay each received an 8, and Soulé a 7.5. The match ratings also carried the reactions from the pitch. McTominay's goals meant he now has two doubles in recent outings, and Napoli will feel the late equaliser deeply. Roma's ability to score three times away from home, and to level twice after falling behind, showed the spirit that Gasperini has asked for all season.

Balerdi scores twice as Roma come from behind to draw 3-3 at Napoli

Roma came from behind twice to draw 3-3 with Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Serie A matchday eight, and Gian Piero Gasperini's side were rescued by Leonardo Balerdi, who came off the bench and scored a brilliant brace. Giallorossi.net's player ratings, written by Andrea Fiorini, gave Balerdi an 8 and Gasperini a 7 for a difficult away trip made without several important players. Gollini was rated 6, with a superb save from Olivera standing out, though he was uncertain with crosses into the box and could have done more on McTominay's shot. Ndicka was rated 6.5 for winning a physical duel with Hojlund, who had little impact. Hermoso, also 6.5, attacked often and tried several times to shoot, but his efforts were always deflected for corners, and Politano often took him on. Mancini was rated 5.5, lacking quality in attack and pace in defence, improving slightly after the break. Rensch, rated 6, made a crucial intervention on Lang but was rated as playing with the handbrake on, offering little going forward. Molina, who replaced him at 58', was rated 6.5 after Gasperini deployed him on the left, where his runs brought energy to the flank. De Roon, rated 6.5, grew into the game and was a wall in the second half. Pisilli was rated 5.5 and was not especially bright, with disappointing set-piece deliveries. Castro, who came on for him at 58', was rated 6 and gave the team a jolt, unsettling the Napoli defence. Wesley was rated 6, described as confused but running tirelessly, with a fine cross for Cristante that hit the post, and an assist for Balerdi's equaliser late on. Cristante was rated 6.5 for his physicality and a few good chances, though he lacked quality with the final pass. Soule was rated 7.5, a constant threat who troubled Napoli and set up Malen inside the area, though Malen wasted the chance. In the second half Soule struck a stunning left-foot shot that revitalised Roma and changed the momentum of the match. Malen was rated 6, wasting a penalty by hitting a weak effort in the area, and was saved only by his assist for Soule. Mora came on late without a rating. Gasperini was praised for his substitutions, which proved decisive in the final 3-3.

Napoli 3-3 Roma: Balerdi's double from the bench rescues a point as Soulé shines

Balerdi came off the bench to score a brace and Roma salvaged a 3-3 draw at Napoli after trailing 2-0 and then 3-2, with McTominay's goal coming late in the game. Soulé was the outstanding attacking performer, with a stunning left-footed strike from distance among his contributions. Gasperini's side had to respond twice in a match that swung back and forth, and the equaliser came in a dramatic finish. The match was a test of character for a Roma side that had dropped in the first half-hour. Gasperini was not satisfied with the team in the opening thirty minutes, and the coach's tactical changes at half-time helped turn the game. Cristante returned to the lineup and brought variety to the midfield, providing Roma's first shot on goal. Gollini was at the centre of the defensive effort, making a Neuer-style rush off his line to deny De Bruyne and then a Svilar-like save from a cross by the same Belgian. Match ratings from the Italian report: Gollini 6, Mancini 6 (replaced by Ghilardi at 82 minutes), N'Dicka 6, Hermoso 6.5, Rensch 6 (replaced by Molina 6.5 at 57 minutes), Pisilli 5.5 (replaced by Castro 6 at 57 minutes), De Roon 6.5, Wesley 5.5, Cristante 7, Soulé 7.5, Malen 6.5 (replaced by Mora at 83 minutes), Gasperini 7. Balerdi, who came on for Hermoso at 57 minutes and was booked soon after, was rated 8. The report said Balerdi produced a double inside half an hour, with his finish summed up as the Argentine 'claw of the lion'. De Roon was credited for clearing a Hojlund shot off the line and for the cross that set up Balerdi's header. Soulé was praised for his dribbling, his defensive work, and his winning strike. The report noted Hermoso's ambition, including a long-range shot that struck the crossbar and a challenge on Hojlund, and Malen's assist for Soulé. Wesley was described as being under pressure from Politano on the right, while Pisilli was criticised for shyness in the first half and for his corner delivery. Gasperini's side finished the game with a point after Roma came back from a two-goal deficit and then from a 3-2 scoreline to draw level.

Roma and Napoli draw 3-3 in Naples after Balerdi's late double, Gasperini's side close on Inter

Roma came back twice from behind to draw 3-3 with Napoli at the Maradona, with Antonio Balerdi scoring twice, the second in the 89th minute, to salvage a point in a chaotic big match. Napoli led through a spectacular overhead kick from Zambo Anguissa, who struck just before the half-hour mark, and an early second-half goal from McTominay in the 48th minute. Roma responded within four minutes, with Matías Soulé equalising in the 70th minute and Balerdi in the 74th. McTominay restored Napoli's lead in the 83rd minute with his personal brace, but Balerdi struck again in stoppage time to fix the final score at 3-3. The result leaves Roma on 18 points, one more than Como and one fewer than Inter and Lazio, both of whom have yet to play. Gasperini made several changes from the Champions League win over Slovan Bratislava. Gollini started in goal, with Mancini, N'Dicka and Hermoso in defence and Wesley and Rensch, preferred to Molina, on the flanks. De Roon and Pisilli formed the midfield pair, with Cristante pushed into the number ten role behind Soulé and Malen. Napoli were coached by Allegri, and the draw left a bitter taste for both Gasperini and Allegri. The opening exchanges were fast-paced. Rensch cleared a cross meant for Lang early on, and Soulé fired a left-footed shot just over the bar in the 8th minute, the first Roma effort on Meret's goal. Napoli came close in the 12th minute when Di Lorenzo found space behind Wesley and sent a low ball across goal, where Rensch intervened again to deny Lang, and Hojlund fired wide from the rebound. Badiashile and McTominay also tested Gollini from distance. Cristante hit a right-foot shot wide around the 20th minute, and Malen's placed effort in the box was pushed away by Meret after a pass from Soulé. Anguissa then opened the scoring just before the half-hour, volleying into the left corner from a set piece. Gollini made a crucial sortie to deny De Bruyne, who had been released by Lang, in the 35th minute. Hermoso then curled a left-foot shot narrowly past the post after a fine run by Soulé, who was again one of Roma's best players. Gollini saved well from Olivera in the 42nd minute, and de Roon cleared off the line. Cristante's header then struck the post in the closing moments of the half. Colombo blew for half-time after one added minute, with Napoli ahead. Beyond the goals, the match featured several yellow cards: Marin (Napoli), and Cristante, Rensch and Balerdi (Roma). Napoli made changes at half-time with Beukema replacing Badiashile, and later Giovane replacing Politano. Roma's substitutions came at the 58th minute, bringing on Balerdi for Hermoso, Molina for Rensch and Castro for Pisilli. The match was played at the Maradona.

Napoli beat Roma 2-1 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Serie A's eighth round, with Anguissa and McTominay scoring for the hosts and Matías Soulé pulling one back for Roma. Gian Piero Gasperini's side were without Mile Svilar, Manu Koné, Paulo Dybala and Lorenzo Pellegrini. Gasperini did, however, have Bryan Cristante back in the starting XI and Donyell Malen available again after serving a one-match suspension. Massimiliano Allegri started Højlund, supported by Politano and Lang, while Rrahmani was ruled out by flu and did not make the bench. Roma's starting line-up was Gollini; Mancini, N'Dicka, Hermoso; Rensch, De Roon, Pisilli, Wesley; Cristante; Soulé, Malen. Rensch lined up at right-back, and Cristante was pushed further forward, with Pisilli alongside him in midfield. Napoli: Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rafa Marin, Badiashile, Olivera; Anguissa, De Bruyne, McTominay; Politano, Højlund, Lang. Colombo of Como refereed, with Bindoni-Rossi M. and Sacchi J.L. as assistants, Aureliano on VAR and Meraviglia as VAR assistant. Rafa Marin was booked after three minutes for a heavy challenge on Wesley, and Cristante and Rensch were also cautioned, in the 28th and 45th minutes. Roma had early chances through Soulé, who fired a left-footed effort wide in the 8th minute, and Cristante, whose powerful right foot struck the outside of the net in the 20th minute. Malen went close from the edge of the box in the 24th minute, when Meret saved with his foot. Gollini kept Roma in the game with a pair of saves, first rushing out to deny De Bruyne in the 34th minute and then stopping Olivera at close range in the 43rd. Cristante hit the left-hand post with a header in the 44th minute. Hermoso had a shooting chance in the 37th minute that was deflected wide. Napoli took the lead in the 27th minute when Anguissa scored with an overhead kick in the Roma area, although Gollini was unable to do anything. The move had started from a free kick that appeared to have no foul on De Bruyne. Before half-time Malen wasted a good opening for Roma. Napoli doubled their lead in the 47th minute, when Politano's right-wing cross was headed in by McTominay, who got ahead of Rensch. Gollini then made a save to deny Politano in the 56th minute, after Wesley had lost possession. Badiashile limped off with an injury in the 51st minute and was replaced by Beukema. Roma made three changes in the 58th minute, bringing on Molina, Balerdi and Castro for Rensch, Pisilli and Hermoso. Napoli also made a substitution in the 65th minute, with Giovane replacing Politano. Balerdi brace rescues Roma a 3-3 draw at Napoli, with Gasperini's side refusing to fold

Leonardo Balerdi scored twice off the bench as Roma came back to draw 3-3 at Napoli's Stadio Maradona on Saturday afternoon, the last day of daylight saving time in 2026. The defender's second goal came in the 89th minute and salvaged a result that looked lost. The match was a six-goal, end-to-end contest that the Italian commentary describes as chaotic yet disciplined, and it left Roma with a sense of growing maturity. The brace is notable beyond the scoreline. The article recalls that the last Roma player to score two goals in a match at Napoli was Agostino Di Bartolomei, who netted a double in a 5-2 win on 20 February 1983, when Roma were chasing the Scudetto. The statistic has been dormant for more than four decades. The Italian writer frames the result as a test of character for Gasperini's side, which played without Paulo Dybala, a significant absence on the day. Roma were two goals down early on, struggling with a poor start in which clarity seemed to be missing. Roma's response after going 3-2 down was the key point of the article. McTominay scored the goal that appeared to settle the match, and the writer argues that this was the moment Roma should have collapsed. Instead, the players kept their shape and their patience, and the bench provided energy. The article says neither side can feel entirely satisfied. Napoli could regret failing to protect their lead twice, while Roma could look back on the opening hour as poor. Still, the writer says Roma left with the lesson that the team can absorb blows without losing its balance. The piece closes with the image of a team that looked into the abyss, remembered who it was, and chose to rewrite the story, with the feet of a defender and the head of a great side.
