Fiorentina fans banned from travelling to Roma for Serie A opener
Fiorentina supporters will not be permitted to attend AS Roma's home fixture on Monday, 24 August, the opening match of the Serie A season at Stadio Olimpico. The Osservatorio Nazionale sulle Manifestazioni Sportive (National Observatory for Sports Events) has prohibited away travel for fans resident in Florence and the surrounding province following a review of security concerns. The decision stems primarily from clashes between Fiorentina and Roma supporters on a motorway in January, an incident that led to away travel bans lasting until the end of the previous season. The latest ruling reflects ongoing tensions between the two sets of supporters and the authority's assessment of the risks associated with the fixture. The match on 24 August will proceed without Fiorentina's travelling contingent as a result of the ban.
