Fenerbahce manager Jorge Kartal said his side have prepared thoroughly for their Champions League encounter with Roma, scheduled for 10 September at 18.45 in Istanbul. Kartal outlined an analytical approach ahead of the fixture, stating: "We have practically completed our work. This evening we will also carry out a small tactical session. We have analysed all the details of Roma and studied every aspect of their game. We have carried out very positive training sessions. Roma has the best squad in its history. It is in great form, having won all three of its league matches so far. On the bench it has a very experienced and productive manager. It is a team that plays man-to-man marking, that manages to quickly bring many players forward into the opponent's half when it recovers the ball. There are certain phases of the match in which risks are taken. We have also analysed these aspects. Tomorrow we will try to do our best. Our supporters will be our most important drive. We are confident ahead of the match."
Kartal's comments signal Fenerbahce's intent to exploit space rather than sit deep. "We know what Roma does and have prepared the match accordingly. We will take to the pitch as a Fenerbahçe that wants to exploit the spaces we have identified," he said. "Tomorrow we will not play exclusively a match based on transitions."
On the supporters' role, Kartal added: "Our fans are everything to us, they are indispensable. We exist because of them. They have never left us alone, in no moment and in no place. Tomorrow we want to make them all happy together. This is a Champions League match, a tactical duel. The fans must support us with this awareness from start to finish. A goal can arrive in the first minute just as in the ninetieth. We must all move together."
Fenerbahce defender Milan Skriniar, who faced Gasperini repeatedly during his time at Atalanta, offered his perspective: "I have faced manager Gasperini many times when he was at Atalanta. They were always very difficult matches, because his teams play very physical football and run a lot. With Roma, in my opinion, the level of quality has risen even further. The squad is well prepared; the manager and his staff have analysed everything and shown us every detail. Today we have the final training session before this big match and I think we are ready to fight."
On Roma's attacking threat from Paulo Dybala and Donyell Malen, Skriniar stated: "In the league they are playing very well and have strong players like those you mentioned. We must work all together, not just the defence but the entire squad, to limit their strengths and try to obtain a good result. We will have to be concentrated and play a great match."
