Gianluca Scamacca, Atalanta's striker, is actively pushing for a move back to Roma after spending time only in the club's youth system. The 1999-born forward held talks with Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini at the Eur, during which he signalled his willingness to take a pay cut. Scamacca's wife, Flaminia, is also keen on a return to the capital.
Atlanta are demanding €25 million plus bonuses for the striker, a fee Roma are reluctant to meet for a backup forward. Several factors could help facilitate a deal. Scamacca's contract runs until 2027, and he is the highest earner in Atalanta's squad at €3.2 million annually—a burden the club wishes to reduce. Gasperini has already managed Scamacca at Bergamo and the pair enjoy an excellent relationship off the pitch, evidenced by Gasperini's attendance at Scamacca's wedding a year ago. Roma's director of sport, D'Amico, also brought Scamacca to Atalanta originally, providing a further connection.
Roma's current priority is recruiting wingers such as Greenwood or Summerville. Although Scamacca would struggle to dislodge Donyell Malen in attack, Gasperini typically rotates his forwards heavily, and participation in three competitions—Champions League, Serie A, and Coppa Italia—would offer sufficient playing time. Any deal for Scamacca would likely depend on the departure of Artem Dovbyk, for whom Roma has already explored offers domestically and abroad.
