The 27-year-old failed to convince head coach Gian Piero Gasperini during the recent pre-season period and departs following a season marked by inconsistency. His departure leaves Roma seeking a new backup left-back to partner Wesley in that role. The club has identified Alessio Cacciamani of Torino as a target. Fabian Berlanga, president of Velez, praised Santi Castro following the player's transfer to Roma for 35 million euros in January 2024.
