Roma's entry into the UEFA Champions League is already reshaping plans across multiple fronts as the club prepares for domestic matches and away trips in the competition.
The Pietralata stadium project has cleared another hurdle, with the regional authority approving the environmental compensation plan for trees to be felled. The technical approvals for staff hired by the club have also been resolved. Roma must plant approximately 1,200 trees per 10,000 square metres in Aguzzano Park using native species, with irrigation and maintenance guaranteed for five years. Remaining assessments on mobility and the archaeological authority are still pending.
Economically, Champions League football is already generating significant revenue for Rome. According to Federalberghi Roma, each Roma home match can create approximately €800,000 in economic activity through around 4,000 visiting supporters spending on hotels, meals and transport. With four home fixtures against Real Madrid, Slovan Bratislava, Sporting CP and Lille, the estimated total economic impact is at least €3.2 million. Short-term accommodation providers are already receiving booking enquiries from supporter groups.
Travel costs for away supporters are proving steep. Flights to Istanbul for the Fenerbahçe match start at €308, while Manchester travel is most affordable if fans depart the day before—an EasyJet service on 2 November cost €331 one-way. Paris offers more reasonable options at around €230 to reach Orly, with return flights departing at dawn the following day. Fan Juha Ahtinen, president of Roma Club Finland and now living in Testaccio, has already mapped trips to Istanbul, Manchester, Paris and Athens, saying: "When Roma calls, you answer present."
