Roma eye a winger and a midfielder in January as Gasperini's squad runs thin
Roma are preparing to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window, with the club reportedly set to bring in at least one attacking winger and a midfield reinforcement to support head coach Gian Piero Gasperini. The move comes as the club's impressive season, which has seen outstanding results and record attacking numbers, exposes the limits of a thin squad. Recent close-packed fixtures between Serie A and the Champions League have highlighted the club's lack of numerical depth, a problem compounded by injuries. The squad's shortage of players risks telling in the decisive moments of the season, and Gasperini needs enough options to maintain the high intensity, pressing and aggression that define his tactical approach. Jamie Gittens, the English winger born in 2004 and currently at Chelsea on a long-term contract, sits at the top of Roma's list of targets for the attacking flanks. He is valued at around €30 million. The club's sporting director Tony D'Amico is working to identify a midfielder who can extend the rotations in midfield and cover the gaps seen when players tire and in the most difficult closing stages of matches. The club's aim is clear: to protect the squad's development and give Gasperini the tools to compete on all fronts until the end of the season.
