Roma enquire about Obrador as Torino weigh riscatto decision

Robinio Vaz's spell in England is not taking off, and a return to Rome at the end of the season looks increasingly likely. The Roma forward, who was sent out last summer to Hull City on a loan costing €2 million with an option to buy set at €30 million, was named in the starting line-up of Hull's U21 side at the weekend, not the first team. Hull's U21s beat Derby County 1-0, with Vaz going close to scoring on several occasions. The demotion comes after a difficult period for the French-born attacker, who has yet to find his rhythm in the Premier League. He has made five Premier League appearances so far, totalling 50 minutes. Hull reportedly judged his condition not suitable for first-team football, as he is recovering from a calf injury. For Roma, the situation keeps the club's youth forward far from the first-team picture at Hull, and a return to the capital is now seen as the likely outcome when the season ends. Vaz remains a Roma player on loan at Hull City.

Roma are reportedly interested in Chelsea winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens as the January transfer window approaches, with the club looking to strengthen its attack for Gian Piero Gasperini. According to TeamTalk, Chelsea would be prepared to loan out the left winger in January, and Roma are waiting in the wings and are in pole position should a deal materialise. Leeds and Sunderland have shown interest, Everton have long admired the player, and Crystal Palace could step in should a possible deal take shape.

Guido Angelozzi, now sporting director at Spezia and formerly sporting director at Cagliari until June 2026, has revealed the details of his dealings with Roma last year. Speaking on Radiolina, he said Cagliari were close to signing Niccolò Pisilli, the Roma academy product, and that Cagliari had been trying to sign Romano. Angelozzi said Roma sporting director Massara had refused to let Romano go completely. Angelozzi spent a year at Cagliari before leaving by mutual agreement at the end of last season, after the club's president wanted to change direction. He said Cagliari are continuing the path set out last year under a young coach in his first managerial role. Romano had been managed by Cagliari for some years, Angelozzi said, and last year Cagliari were taking him on, but Massara would not fully release him. Angelozzi praised Cagliari for a big signing and congratulated the director who brought the player in, saying the player has an important future. He said: "Massara ci aveva detto no per Romano. Ed eravamo vicini a Pisilli." He added: "Sono contento che sia arrivato a Cagliari, sia per lui che per Pisilli. A gennaio stavamo prendendo anche lui, ma non è stato possibile."

Roma are battling a growing injury crisis ahead of Saturday's clash with Sassuolo, with Daniele Rensch's absence joined by doubts over Paulo Dybala and goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini. Devyne Rensch has a first-degree adductor tear, the tests revealed, and will not return until the Parma match after the international break. Dybala, who did not train with the rest of the group at Monday's resumption, is heading towards missing tomorrow's game. The squad is stretched thin.
