Zeki Çelik has completed his contract renewal at Roma, with document exchanges finalised. The Turkish defender will rejoin the squad on 18 July following post-tournament leave. Mason Greenwood's proposed move to Roma fell through this summer, with the English forward instead joining Fenerbahce in Turkey. Marseille sporting director Gregory Lorenzi explained the circumstances at a press conference, stating that despite Greenwood's willingness to depart, the club faced significant constraints. Lorenzi said: "We know how complex Greenwood's situation was, given the player's image. It is important to understand that opportunities were not many. We discussed trying to find a compromise with the player, who wanted to leave, because this needs to be clarified." Lorenzi outlined the economic and market realities that shaped the outcome, noting that Marseille's budget limitations meant other clubs were not actively pursuing Greenwood's signature. He explained: "We are bound by financial limits. Clubs were not knocking on our door to buy Mason Greenwood. The market valued the player at less than 80 or 100 million. Given the circumstances of this transfer, the club is achieving its objectives. The player was loved by the fans. But keeping a player who did not want to continue wearing the OM shirt was something we did not want to do."
