Source: Roma News

Roma midfielder Emanuele Lulli has been named in Italy Under-21 coach Carlo Baldini's squad for two friendlies against France and Belgium. The call-up comes during the international break, which has also brought recognition for Daniele Ghilardi and Niccolò Pisilli, who have been called up to the senior Italy squad by head coach Roberto Mancini.

The Under-21 fixtures are high-profile international tests against peers from France and Belgium, and will help the young side continue its development after qualifying for the European Under-21 Championship finals, to be held in 2027 in Albania and Serbia. Lulli's inclusion is a further sign of the progress of the club's young players, with Lulli representing Roma in the Azzurrini squad.

Baldini's provisional squad lists the following players. Goalkeepers: Giovanni Daffara (Parma), Diego Mascardi (Torino), Lorenzo Palmisani (Frosinone), Massimo Pessina (Bologna). Defenders: Davide Bartesaghi (Milan), Gabriele Calvani (Frosinone), Fabio Chiarodia (Borussia M'Gladbach), Pietro Comuzzo (Torino), Eddy Kouadio (Monza), Emanuele Lulli (Roma), Filippo Mane (Borussia Dortmund), Brando Moruzzi (Avellino). Midfielders: Lorenzo Amatucci (Deportivo La Coruna), Tommaso Berti (Cremonese), Matteo Cichella (Frosinone), Matteo Dagasso (Venezia), Giacomo Faticanti (Avellino), Luca Lipani (Sassuolo), Cher Ndour (Fiorentina). Forwards: Alessio Cacciamani (Torino), Francesco Camarda (Milan), Luigi Cherubini (Benevento), Jeff Ekhator (Juventus), Seydou Fini (Frosinone), Samuele Inacio (Borussia Dortmund), Dominic Vavassori (Palermo).

Roma midfielder Emanuele Lulli has been named in Italy Under-21 coach Carlo Baldini's squad for two friendlies against France and Belgium during the international break. Roma News describes him as a midfielder, while Forza Roma calls him a defender, and the published squad lists him among the defenders. Forza Roma notes that he is the only Roma player in the Under-21 group. The fixtures come after Italy qualified for the 2027 European Under-21 Championship, to be held in Albania and Serbia.

The break also brings senior recognition for Roma's Daniele Ghilardi and Niccolò Pisilli, both called up by Roberto Mancini. Forza Roma adds that veteran Gianluca Mancini is included, and says Pisilli is back in the squad after being key for Baldini's side. Forza Roma also reports that Nicolò Zaniolo, now at Udinese, returns to the senior set-up. The outlets differ on the nature of the matches: Forza Roma describes the senior games against France and Belgium as Nations League fixtures, while Roma News and Forza Roma's Under-21 coverage call the Baldini matches friendlies.

Forza Roma says three players are making their first Under-21 appearance: Massimo Pessina, Eddy Kouadio and Samuele Inacio, all of whom came through the senior set-up last October. Three players return in attack, Alessio Cacciamani, who has been absent since March 2026, Jeff Ekhator and Dominic Vavassori, while Filippo Mane and Lorenzo Amatucci return in defence and midfield. Forza Roma also lists four uncapped youngsters receiving their first senior call-up: Riccardo Cassano, Simone Lontani, Alphadjo Cisse and Mattia Liberali.

Gasperini faces injury blow to Rensch as Roma pause for internationals

Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini has received a new injury setback, with Devyne Rensch suffering a muscle injury and expected to return after the international break. The club's pause for the national team fixtures comes at a useful time to recover several players and prepare for upcoming commitments. The defeat at Manchester has left Gasperini with clear lessons, particularly the need to widen the options available in the squad. Until the derby in mid-December, the fixture list contains no other big league match. Gasperini will not speak at a press conference on the eve of the match against Sassuolo. From the English trip, a message came from Matías Soulé, who urged the team to learn from the defeats and keep working with the same commitment. The Argentine is now one of the main attacking reference points alongside Malen, but it is precisely this dependence that worries the coach. Even without Svilar, the team has shown fragility: goals conceded have increased and the save percentage has dropped noticeably.

Koné closing in on return for Roma-Sassuolo as Rensch ruled out with thigh injury

Manu Koné is on course to return for Roma's Saturday evening clash with Sassuolo at the Olimpico, while Devyne Rensch has been ruled out with a first-degree tear of the right adductor longus. Roma are preparing for the match against Sassuolo, coached by former Roma player Alberto Aquilani, with the aim of putting behind them the setback of their latest slip in the Champions League. Gian Piero Gasperini is hoping for positive news from the treatment room to widen his rotation options, after a squad that has been put under severe strain over the past month by numerous physical setbacks. Paulo Dybala's situation is still in doubt, but there is more optimism over Koné, who has overcome a muscle problem in his thigh and could be included in the squad. The medical staff will, however, proceed with caution, also with an eye on his call-up for the French national team. Gollini's condition is improving after he missed the game at Manchester for a back problem. Rensch was forced off after just 20 minutes of the match against Manchester United because of a muscle problem. Tests revealed a first-degree tear of the right adductor longus. The Dutchman will therefore not be available against Sassuolo. The aim is for him to be back available immediately after the international break. Italy coach Roberto Mancini has named his squad for the Nations League matches against France and Belgium, scheduled for Thursday 12 November at San Siro and Sunday 15 November at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels respectively. Three Roma players have been called up: Gianluca Mancini, Daniele Ghilardi and Niccolò Pisilli. Evan Ndicka will also depart, called up by Ivory Coast for their African Cup of Nations qualifiers. Marten de Roon is the subject of a new interview conducted by Idealista in collaboration with Roma. The midfielder spoke about his arrival at the club, how he lives football day to day and his relationship with the dressing room. "When the coach called me I already knew it would be a difficult move, partly because of the history between Roma and Atalanta, partly because of what was said on social media about Roma; but at a certain point we had decided, and I had no doubts," the Dutchman said. "In the dressing room I am still looking for my role, so I don't joke around much, but the atmosphere is healthy, it seems like an 'easy' dressing room. Years ago I thought it was very difficult, even playing against it; now that I've come in, I've seen that it is healthy, warm, welcoming." Roma's many injuries have also been a talking point on Rome's airwaves. Roberto Pruzzo told Radio Radio: "Sassuolo are probably the right opponent for a Roma side that needs to get back up and reach the break without forcing the return of those who have been sidelined for a long time. Injuries, unfortunately, are now part of an increasingly frenetic game." Piero Torri added on Radio Manà Manà Sport: "Roma's squad is short and will stay that way for a couple of months yet, because the market only reopens in January. Serie A and the Champions League demand a lot, and this inevitably takes its toll. If we add the problem of injuries, the weight on the team becomes even more evident."

Rensch ruled out for around 20 days with adductor injury

Roma's injury problems have deepened after tests confirmed a tear to the adductor muscle for Devyne Rensch, who came off during the Champions League clash with Manchester United. The Dutch full-back is expected to be sidelined for around twenty days, forcing Gian Piero Gasperini to do without another player in the coming weeks. Rensch had been struggling with the problem in the first half at Old Trafford, when he was forced off and replaced by Emanuele Lulli. The examinations have confirmed the muscular nature of the injury. He will now begin his recovery with the aim of being available again after the international break, while the situation leaves Lulli and Nahuel Molina with more options on the flanks. Gasperini will not hold his usual press conference on the eve of Roma's next fixture, so he will not speak to reporters tomorrow.

Rensch suffers adductor tear, out for around three weeks

Devyne Rensch has suffered a mild tear to his right adductor during Roma's Champions League defeat at Manchester United, according to Sky Sport, and the Dutch full-back is expected to be sidelined for around three weeks. The 22-minute withdrawal at Old Trafford saw Lulli come on in his place. The problem means Rensch will miss Roma's next Serie A fixture against Sassuolo on Saturday evening at the Olimpico. He may only return after the international break, depending on how the injury progresses. The absence further complicates the plans of Gian Piero Gasperini, who is already without Dybala, Koné and Svilar through injury. Gasperini must now do without another option on the flanks just as Roma prepare for their final match before the break. The pause offers a valuable chance to clear, at least in part, the club's injury list.

Angelozzi reveals Cagliari were close to signing Pisilli and that Massara had refused to part with Romano

Guido Angelozzi, now sporting director at Spezia and formerly sporting director at Cagliari until June 2026, has revealed the details of his dealings with Roma last year. Speaking on Radiolina, he said Cagliari were close to signing Niccolò Pisilli, the Roma academy product, and that Cagliari had been trying to sign Romano. Angelozzi said Roma sporting director Massara had refused to let Romano go completely. Angelozzi spent a year at Cagliari before leaving by mutual agreement at the end of last season, after the club's president wanted to change direction. He said Cagliari are continuing the path set out last year under a young coach in his first managerial role. Romano had been managed by Cagliari for some years, Angelozzi said, and last year Cagliari were taking him on, but Massara would not fully release him. Angelozzi praised Cagliari for a big signing and congratulated the director who brought the player in, saying the player has an important future. He said: "Massara ci aveva detto no per Romano. Ed eravamo vicini a Pisilli." He added: "Sono contento che sia arrivato a Cagliari, sia per lui che per Pisilli. A gennaio stavamo prendendo anche lui, ma non è stato possibile."
