Marash Kumbulla, the Albanian defender still contracted to Roma after spending the past season on loan at Sassuolo and Mallorca, has outlined his ambitions to make an impact under Gian Piero Gasperini. Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Kumbulla expressed regret at not training more extensively with the Roma head coach but accepted the club's decisions and pledged to prove his worth.
"Gasperini is one of the best managers in Italy and Europe," Kumbulla said. "He demonstrated that with Atalanta and with Roma, bringing them back to the Champions League after so many years. I would have liked to train more with him, but Roma made their decisions. You have to accept them and look for something that convinces you. Now I will go to train well, put myself at the manager's disposal and do my best. Then we will talk with them, we will see what they want and we will decide."
Kumbulla also addressed speculation over a potential return to Espanyol, ruling out any concrete negotiations. "There were some possibilities, but nothing concrete, no real offer arrived," he explained. "I knew there was a desire to have me back there, but in the end nothing materialised. We will see how things go now. In football you can never close any door, we will see what happens. I have shown I can adapt to La Liga, so I keep all possibilities open."
