Stephan El Shaarawy has announced his departure from AS Roma after ten years with the club. His contract with the Giallorossi expires at the end of the season, and he confirmed the split through an emotional social media message. El Shaarawy stated: "There are places that become home without you noticing. And then, one day, you realize it was so much more… they were people, emotions, life. For me, these 10 years have been all of this. I arrived here with dreams, ambitions and a strong desire to prove myself. I leave with a full heart. Full of memories, of shared battles, of immense joys but also of difficult moments that made me grow, on and off the pitch."
The 32-year-old winger spent a decade at the Stadio Olimpico and served as club captain. He highlighted the significance of Roma's UEFA Europa Conference League victory in 2022 and expressed gratitude for the honour of wearing the captain's armband. El Shaarawy noted that the current season was "particularly difficult in part," but stressed this does not change his commitment to the club. He confirmed the Derby della Capitale against SS Lazio will be his final home match for Roma at the Olimpico.
El Shaarawy thanked the club's hierarchy, teammates, coaching staff, and supporters. He concluded his message by stating: "I leave, but a part of me will remain here. Because certain stories don't really end, they just change form. I will be forever grateful to this club and especially to this city that has given me so much."
