D'Amico on a mission for Read: Roma must beat Nottingham Forest

Marash Kumbulla has been excluded from Gasperini's plans at Roma and was absent from the squad that travelled to Wales on 31 July. Lorenzo Pellegrini is on the verge of signing a new contract with Roma after the club revised its initial offer. The Friedkin Group had proposed a one-year deal expiring in June 2027, but Pellegrini sought a three-year commitment. The two parties are now expected to agree on a two-year deal with an option worth €2.5 million per season. Pellegrini has accepted a significant pay cut and awaits final approval from ownership. The midfielder's commitment to Roma has never wavered despite the protracted negotiations, and he remains eager to continue under head coach Gian Piero Gasperini. As a result, Roma face disciplinary action from UEFA's headquarters in Nyon, with a ruling expected in November. The club anticipates a fine of €10–12 million and a restriction on squad size for European competitions in 2027–28, reducing the permitted roster from 25 to 22 players. More severe penalties — such as a ban on fielding newly signed players or exclusion from competitions — are considered unlikely.
