Sabatini backs Salah return to Serie A, suggests Roma or Italy national team move
Former Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has expressed enthusiasm for Mohamed Salah's potential return to Italian football. Salah is set to leave Liverpool on a free transfer, with Juventus and Roma among clubs linked to the Egyptian winger. Sabatini, who brought Salah to Roma previously, believes the 34-year-old remains a top-level player capable of making an immediate impact. Sabatini told La Stampa that bringing a player of Salah's calibre from the Premier League to Serie A would be difficult but rewarding. He specifically highlighted the possibility of Salah joining Italy's national team under coach Luciano Spalletti, saying: "Portare un giocatore di quel livello dalla Premier League alla Serie A è molto difficile, ma sarebbe una cosa piacevole e gratificante rivederlo magari alla Roma oppure con Spalletti, con cui si realizzerebbe in pieno" ("Bringing a player of that level from the Premier League to Serie A is very difficult, but it would be pleasant and gratifying to see him perhaps at Roma or with Spalletti, with whom he would fully realize himself"). The Roma path currently appears less likely, with the club's interest described as lukewarm. Sabatini praised Salah's tactical discipline, defensive work rate, and professional character. He advised the winger against moving to Saudi Arabia at his age, arguing instead for a return to Europe's top leagues. Sabatini concluded: "Chi prende Salah prende un campione" ("Whoever signs Salah gets a champion").
