D'Amico arrival on hold: Roma refuses to pay compensation to Atalanta
Tony D'Amico's move to Roma as sporting director remains stalled due to an unresolved dispute with Atalanta. Although D'Amico has been identified as head coach Gian Piero Gasperini's new right-hand man at Roma, the transfer has not been finalized. The hold-up centers on Atalanta's demands for compensation: D'Amico remains contractually bound to the Bergamo club until 30 June 2027, despite being removed from his role in favor of Giuntoli, who is already operating at Atalanta. Roma is reportedly unwilling to pay the required indemnity to secure his release. The delay comes after the official departure of Massara, with hopes that D'Amico's appointment would follow quickly. Instead, negotiations between the Friedkin Group and Atalanta have hit a standstill, creating what is described as an arm-wrestling match between the two clubs. The situation is expected to be resolved as soon as possible, though details remain unclear on the precise compensation figure or timeline. It is believed D'Amico may already be working informally with Gasperini on matters such as contract renewals, but his official appointment is needed before such matters can be formally addressed.
