Andreazzoli reflects on Luis Enrique's Roma tenure: difficult year but left his mark
Aurelio Andreazzoli, who worked as an assistant under Luis Enrique at Roma, has offered insights into the Spanish coach's time at the club. Speaking to Sky Sport, Andreazzoli acknowledged that Luis Enrique operated during a challenging period but made a lasting impact on both the environment and the squad through his clear vision and strong personality. "He had the opportunity to express himself at Roma in a difficult year, and despite the difficulties he influenced both the environment and the squad, displaying his qualities," Andreazzoli said. "He was very good at entering the group, with difficulty but with great personality. He already had very clear ideas and a way of interpreting work that we still see today." Andreazzoli characterized Luis Enrique as a man of principle with a precise, uncompromising vision of his role—both tactically and morally. "He is a man all of one piece, with his ideas and without possibility of compromise: either you follow his line or coexistence becomes impossible," Andreazzoli explained. The assistant coach revealed that Luis Enrique departed when he felt conditions no longer aligned with his objectives, having already proven his methods at Barcelona and Paris. Andreazzoli also disclosed a behind-the-scenes incident involving Daniele De Rossi's exclusion from Roma's away fixture in Bergamo. De Rossi arrived slightly late to a pre-match meeting, and though the delay was minimal, Luis Enrique—who typically announced lineups at the hotel before traveling to the stadium—decided not to include him, viewing the tardiness as disrespectful to the match's importance. De Rossi accepted the decision gracefully, and at season's end the squad wanted Luis Enrique to remain, but he opted for a sabbatical instead.
