Mancini thanks Ranieri but insists squad must follow the coach as Roma eyes Champions League push
Gianluca Mancini spoke after Roma's victory over Fiorentina, praising the squad's unity and commitment under head coach Gian Piero Gasperini. Mancini acknowledged Ranieri's contributions but made clear the team's focus is on following the current manager. He said: "Da allenatore e da dirigente per noi ha fatto qualcosa di importante. Lo abbiamo ringraziato" (As coach and director he did something important for us. We thanked him), but stressed that such matters are beyond the playing squad's concern. Mancini emphasized Roma's resilience after a difficult 2024–25 campaign, noting the group has remained united throughout. He credited their training intensity and collective belief as the team pursues a Champions League finish with three matches remaining. "Questa squadra ha carattere. In un anno ci possono essere settimane o partite in cui ti gira male o dove sei un po' giù, ma l'impegno e la forza di crederci sempre e allenarsi a mille all'ora per arrivare la domenica, andare forte e vincere le partite non è mai mancato" (This squad has character. In a year there can be weeks or matches when things go badly or you're down, but the commitment and strength to believe and train hard to arrive on Sunday, go strong and win matches has never been lacking). Gasperini also addressed the squad's cohesion, describing Roma as "a beautiful, united group, strong in character and players," though he acknowledged ups and downs are normal. Mancini highlighted Donyell Malen's impact since his arrival and called for continued focus on themselves rather than rivals, with upcoming fixtures against Parma, Lazio in the derby, and Verona.
